Thank you for the warm welcome you’ve given us since we were announced as the new co-chairs of CivicAction’s Emerging Leaders Network – we are thrilled to work with (and on behalf of) all of you to develop, connect and activate the GTHA’s future leaders over the next 2 years!
We’re excited to share with you our priorities and an invitation. Read below, and if this resonates with you, think about how you’d like to step into a larger role.
Over the past few months, we’ve had the opportunity to talk with a number of members (both past and present) and we’ve also had a chance to review the feedback you provided through the 2015 ELN survey results. What stood out? First and foremost, wow – what a great group of people we have in this network. From executive committee members to founding members to those who have only recently joined, you all bring an incredibly diverse set of skills and backgrounds and a shared desire to drive impact in your community.
The second thing that stands out is opportunity and potential. You told us that you’re looking for more ways to build your network. You also told us that you want more ways to learn about (and engage in) city-building initiatives. As co-chairs, we want the same things and we plan to work collaboratively with all of you to help the ELN continue to make that happen. For that reason, our goals for 2016 and 2017 include the following:
- Run thoughtful and engaging programming, making it more frequent, more regular, and in more locations;
- Strengthen & grow the membership: get you more involved by offering you what you’re looking for & drawing in new members; and
- Recognize and profile your city-building contributions and talents: through new and existing awards and partnerships.
- Of course, we can’t do this alone. If you are interested in being a part of the executive committee for the coming year, look out for an open call that will be circulated in early spring!
Finally, we want to take a moment to thank the most recent ELN co-chairs, Alex Stewart and Noreen Javed, along with their executive committee for their vision and leadership over the past two years, and for their commitment to supporting rising leaders in our region. They have left big shoes to fill and we look forward to building on this foundation.
Thank you again for the welcome and for your continued engagement in the ELN. We look forward to working with all of you over the next two years and know that through the diversity, genius and passion of the ELN, great things are in store!
