On Thursday July 28th, ELNers had their say on the potential transformation of the east downtown Toronto area known as East Harbour. The tour (which included a behind the scenes look at the former Unilever Soap Factory) was part of a series of consultations that the developer is hosting to see how arts, culture and technology, programming and infrastructure can bring life and energy to the development, and specifically the Soap Factory and its exterior footprint in 2017. As part of the tour and discussion, ELNers were asked to help reimagine this unique space.
“The Unilever tour was a unique and niche opportunity to get to know a site that many people have passed, but only a few have visited,” said Lana Majid, ELN Executive Committee Member and event participant. “While participants enjoyed learning about some of the initial plans for the site, the city-building magic really ignited when members were consulted on how the site could be optimized as a shared community space.”
Stay tuned as plans develop. You can read more about the project here!
